The ISO/OSI Network Stack is a reference model, so a lot of the time the whole thing is not implemented in functioning networks. But more recently, network components are extending their usefulness by becoming aware of application behavior beyond the "traditional" network layers like MAC addresses and IP addresses. So, in case you forget here is a reminder of what the reference model looks like.
